First Session
Integrating Inclusive Technology & Graphic Solutions for Accessible Design
Gavin Greenhalf
Group Creative Director
Aire Global, UK
LinkedInIn this session, Gavin will cover how we can harness all of the things we have learned so far regarding accessible packaging.
- How can we use technology and graphic solutions in the right way?
- How can we not only assist the purchasing power of shoppers contending with a disability, but optimize a brands’ DNA at the same time, in order to create a truly effective piece of packaging engagement?
Gavin will bring to light how packaging communications, when created with the inclusive shopper in mind, can also be one of the most powerful tools for your brand. It’s not going to be rocket science, it’s purely about acknowledging some key considerations to not only access a potential 1.5billion consumers around the world, but also without excluding a brands’ existing consumer.
There’s no secrets or confidential formula, as the primary goal is to give all brands and companies the ability to make a difference by giving all shoppers an equal opportunity for accessibility.
First Session
NaviLens Digital Codes Paving the Way for Accessible and Inclusive Packaging
Javier Pita
Founder & CEO
NaviLens, Spain
LinkedInJoin Founder and CEO, Javier Pita from NaviLens, as he guides you through the journey of this ground-breaking technology.
Beginning in January 2022, all Kellogg’s cereal boxes in Europe will include a NaviLens printed code, made up of high contrast colored squares on a black background. NaviLens, unlike QR codes, can be easily read from up to three meters away when a smart phone is pointe in it’s general direction. NaviLens was trialed in the UK, in 2020 on Kellogg’s Coco Pops boxes. During the trial, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) found that 97% of trial participants wanted to see the feature on grocery packaging in the future.
Typically, vital information on packaging is found in often illegible fine print, making it very difficult for people with visual impairment to access details on pack. This new technology offers visually impaired and blind people the same level of freedom in store aisles and easy access to information as sighted people.
Second Session
Packaging Accessibility: How Small Changes Have Big Impact
Sam Latif
Company Accessibility Leader
Procter & Gamble, UK
LinkedInSam is P&G’s first Company Accessibility Leader and is leading P&G’s thought leadership and commitment to making products, packaging, and advertising accessible for both the growing aging population and the 1.7 billion people around the world with a disability. Sam was born in the UK and is a first-generation Scottish Pakistani. The passion for what Sam is doing at P&G has been inspired by the personal access challenges she has experienced being blind as both a consumer and an employee. Sam will discuss P&G’s opportunity to reach more consumers with more accessible products and packaging for all, specifically looking at Olay’s easy-open lid designed for people with disabilities.
Second Session
The CyR.U.S.™ System Of Raised Universal Symbols
Victoria Watts, award-winning, visibility rights activist will bring us through her journey in the creation of The Cy.R.U.S System, the first – and only- modern tactile language. Victoria worked closely with the Lighthouse Foundation to design this one-of-a-kind, patented, raised universal package design comprised of a library of raised symbols and embossed QR Codes that make it easy and intuitive to identify products, learn about ingredients and understand usage. Cy.R.U.S was developed to give the over 2.2 billion people worldwide, who have some degree of vision loss – independence, enjoyment, and product safety. Victoria will bring us through her own emotional journey of the creation of Cy.R.U.S which was inspired by Victoria’s young son, Cyrus, who was born blind, and her mission to offer visually impaired customers the ability to experience and enjoy beauty and personal care.
